Florida Zone C Archery Season: A 7-Point Pre-Hunt Checklist

Florida hunting seasons do not open everywhere at once. On private lands outside the wildlife management area system, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission lists Zone C archery season for September 19 through October 18, 2026, while Zone B archery season begins October 17. That makes late September a good time to slow down, confirm the exact rules for your location and check your gear before the next hunt.

This is a planning checklist, not a substitute for current regulations. Always verify your hunting zone, deer management unit, property rules and any wildlife management area brochure before you go.

1. Confirm the zone and the property

Start with the exact place you plan to hunt. Florida’s statewide zone dates and individual wildlife management area schedules can differ. Use the official FWC season dates and zone and DMU maps, then check the brochure for the specific WMA if one applies.

2. Verify every required license and permit

FWC says archery-season hunters generally need a Florida hunting license, deer permit and archery-season permit unless exempt. A management-area permit and quota permit may also be required on some WMAs. Review the official deer hunting FAQ before leaving home rather than relying on last year’s routine.

3. Recheck bag limits and antler rules

Season dates are only one part of the rule set. Bag limits and antler requirements can vary by deer management unit and land type. Save the relevant official page to your phone and keep any required harvest-reporting information available.

4. Inspect your equipment before the hunt

Look over strings, cables, fasteners, arrows and other equipment for visible wear or damage. Confirm that your safety equipment is complete and usable. If anything is questionable, stop and have it inspected by a qualified professional before using it.

5. Plan for Florida heat and changing weather

Early fall can still feel like summer. Carry enough water, watch the forecast, and build in time to cool down. Pack rain protection, a basic first-aid kit, insect protection and a charged phone or backup power source. Our Florida fall camping checklist covers several trip-planning habits that also transfer well to a hunting day.

6. Leave a simple trip plan

Tell someone where you will park, the general area you plan to use and when you expect to return. Check in when you are safely out. If your plan changes, update your contact before moving to a different location.

7. Respect the land and the next person

Pack out trash and line, follow access and parking rules, and avoid damaging gates, roads or vegetation. A clean exit matters just as much as a careful entry.

The short version

Know the zone. Know the property. Confirm permits and current rules. Inspect equipment. Plan for heat and weather. Leave a trip plan. Pack everything back out.
